We’ve now completed 2 weeks of the term and thus one cycle of our new two-week timetable, and so far so good. The 55 minute lesson regime has been very well received by the vast majority of teachers and pupils, and there has been little, if any, confusion between Weeks A and B!

On Sunday (Founder’s Day) we had our first set of Divisions. The Inspecting Officer, Brigadier Jim Richardson, MBE (Commanding Officer, Headquarters 49 (East) Brigade), together with his wife Paula, were both extremely impressed with the staff and pupils they met and the spectacle of Divisions followed by Chapel.

My week finished with prefects’ training away from school in Eyke near Woodbridge. The training was expertly run by Hazel Anthony, Senior Mistress, and James Lockwood, our new Deputy Headmaster. This year’s prefects are an impressive bunch and I am sure they will do an excellent job.

The only downside (paradoxically) of the term so far has been the beautiful weather - our pitches are still very hard and, to date, all of our home rugby matches have been cancelled. Hockey fixtures have, of course, gone ahead as scheduled. On Saturday afternoon I umpired our Girls’ 1st XI - we played well and beat Norwich by the comfortable margin of 6 goals to nil. On Tuesday, I will be dusting off the cobwebs and joining a number of my colleagues for the first staff hockey fixture of the term.

All is well, indeed RHS is in fine fettle!
